Theft of 14,000 gallons of sacramental wine

From El País newspaper today, news that some unknown persons stole 14,000 gallons of sacramental wine from De Muller winery of Reus. Yesterday morning the winery found that the main gate to the winery had been forced open and thieves had made off with two tanker truckloads of wine. The winery estimates the value of the stolen goods at roughly 100,000 euros.

Commenting yesterday, Pau Roca, Secretary General of the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), said that this was the first time he had ever heard of such a thing happening in Spain.

De Muller winery was founded in 1851 and produces sacramental and other types of wine. For sacramental wine, De Muller follows the dicates of the Catholic Church and was papal supplier from popes Pius X to John XXIII.
