Adria's wine venture - part 2
- editor's note: Tempranillo returns from an extended hiatus. Thanks for your patience!!
In a follow-up to my post back in October last year, a helpful reader passed on the "buy your own vine" website of the superstar chef Ferran Adrià (of El Bullí). The site http://www.calceldoni.com/ is up and running. Its in Spanish only, but well worth a visit for the high quality of the presentation.
The proposal is roughly as follows: for 59 euros per month (plus VAT), members take ownership of a set of vines (numbered and locatable by GPS), which are tended and managed by the association. The first harvest is expected for this fall (2006) and the first wines ready by early 2007. Vine owners are expected to recieve roughtly 42 bottles per year. They can design their own labels and can choose the bottle style. So for under 20 euros per bottle, you can have the equivalent of your own winery in Spain!!

mesvisgnes.com are doing the same thing in France, but slightly more cheaply.
As I wrote when I blogged about this a few months ago, I'm waiting for the same idea to reach Galicia so I can have my own Albariño.
People seem to be doing this everywhere. To me it seems fun that the people who poo-poo Coop wine, seem to have just created their own!
