El Bulli takes you to the vineyard
Ferran Adrià and Juli Soler, the duo behind Spain's most legendary restaurant, El Bulli, have just launched a new venture called "compreunaviña", or "buy a vine".
The concept is to offer individuals and companies the chance of owning their own vineyard, or at least their own part of a vineyard. Those who buy into the project will have their own vines, as well as the services of leading winemakers who will create wines to the owners' taste from the grapes that they own. The owner can have the wines bottled in a range of bottle styles with their own labels.
The vineyard is the Clos Peguera estate, located near the village of Cal Celdoni, in Catalunya's Conca de Barberà D.O. This region is noted for the light and fresh quality of its red wines and has seen investments in recent years by some of Spain's leading wine groups, such as Miguel Torres and Codorniu.
In addition to the wine making services, the owners will be invited to special events at the nearby castle of Cal Celdoni. Above all, the owners will be able to participate to whatever extent they wish in the cultivation, tending and harvesting of the grapes, and the vinification of the wines.
At this point, I have not been able to find a website for Compreunaviña, but I imagine that any interested person could contact the project via the El Bulli website: www.elbulli.com.

Thanks for the info!!
Hi Steven,
Love the blog and love Spanish wines.
Do you know of any other vineyards in Spain which are offering vineyard sharing/rent-a-row-of-vines schemes?
I have found plenty in France and Italy but not Spain?
The El Bulli endorsed one sounds amazing but still won't get me a table at his restaurant!!!
Thanks in advance!
Hi and thanks for your comments.
I haven't heard of any other similar venture in Spain, apart from specialty production wine clubs, but the Cal Celdoni project seems to allow for fair amount of customization. I don't think membership there will automatically get you a table at El Bullí, but it couldn't hurt, right?
